A heated fashion controversy has emerged at the ongoing 78th Cannes Film Festival involving influencer Nancy Tyagi and singer Neha Bhasin. The dispute centers around Nancy’s beige outfit that she showcased on the Cannes red carpet, which she claimed to have stitched herself over a month. However, Neha Bhasin has publicly challenged Nancy’s claim, accusing her of falsely taking credit for a purchased dress.
On May 18, Nancy Tyagi shared photos of her stunning beige ensemble on Instagram, revealing that the dress took her a whole month to create. She described it as a mini dress with a plunging sweetheart neckline paired with a flowing floor-length cape jacket, adorned with tassels, pearls, and crystals. The influencer thanked everyone involved in making the outfit, emphasizing the heavy and intricate nature of the attire.
However, Neha Bhasin stirred the pot by posting on Instagram Stories, accusing Nancy of misrepresenting the outfit’s origins. Neha posted side-by-side images of her own similar outfit, which she wore during a concert earlier, captioning the collage “Same Same.” She also revealed that the dress was actually from The Source Bombay — a boutique in Bandra known for selling and renting customized designer clothes.
Neha clarified that her intention was not to demean Nancy but to highlight the importance of acknowledging hard work and original talent. “To call someone else’s work your own will never be okay,” Neha stated, emphasizing the struggles of small businesses like The Source Bombay and urging people to give credit where it’s due.
In response, a stylist associated with Nancy reportedly mentioned that the dress was indeed purchased from The Source Bombay, contradicting Nancy’s claims about stitching it herself.
Nancy’s look at Cannes drew significant attention for its elegance, with intricate details and glamorous accessories like embellished heels, gold ear cuffs, and metallic nails. But the recent allegations have cast a shadow over the influencer’s credibility regarding the outfit’s creation.
The fashion feud highlights ongoing conversations about authenticity, credit, and respect in the creative and fashion industries. As the Cannes Film Festival continues, this controversy remains a hot topic among fans and fashion enthusiasts alike.
