Dilip Joshi, best known for portraying the iconic character of Jethalal Champaklal Gada in the popular TV show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC), has responded to reports claiming that he got into a physical altercation with the show’s producer, Asit Modi. The actor dismissed the rumors as “completely false” and expressed his frustration over the negativity being spread about the long-running show.
The rumors, which surfaced earlier this week, alleged that Joshi had a heated argument with Asit Modi on set, reportedly even grabbing the producer by the collar. The incident was said to have occurred in August over a leave request, with some reports stating that the situation escalated so much that Joshi threatened to leave the show. However, sources indicated that Modi was able to calm the actor down and resolve the issue.
In a statement issued to the media, Dilip Joshi clarified the situation, expressing his dismay over the false reports. He said, “I just want to clear the air about all these rumours going around. There have been some stories in the media about me and Asit Bhai that are completely false, and it really saddens me to see such things being said.” He further added, “It’s disheartening to see negativity being spread about something that has brought so much joy to so many for so many years.”
Joshi highlighted the toll such rumors take, not only on the cast and crew but also on the fans of the show. “Every time such rumours pop up, it feels like we’re constantly explaining that they are completely untrue. It’s tiring, and it’s frustrating because it’s not just about us—it’s about all the fans who love the show and get upset reading these things.”
The actor also addressed previous rumors about his exit from the show, which had been circulating for some time. “Earlier, there were even rumours about me leaving the show, which is completely false,” he said. He went on to emphasize his commitment to Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, saying, “I’m here, I’m working every day with the same love and passion for the show, and I’m not going anywhere.”
Joshi expressed his belief that these rumors may stem from jealousy over the continued success of the show, adding, “Sometimes, I can’t help but wonder if some people are just jealous of the show’s continued success. I don’t know who is behind spreading these stories, but I want to say this clearly: I’ve been a part of this wonderful journey for so long, and I will continue to be a part of it.”
Earlier, News18 had quoted an anonymous source claiming the altercation had taken place when Joshi allegedly became very angry during a discussion about his leave request. The source stated that the actor’s frustration led to a physical confrontation with Asit Modi, who was eventually able to calm Joshi down.
Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, which first aired in July 2008, has become a household name in India. The show, produced by Asit Kumar Modi and Neela Asit Modi, is based on the Gujarati column Duniya Ne Oondha Chashma by Tarak Mehta. It has remained one of the longest-running sitcoms on Indian television, known for its light-hearted take on social issues.
