Kartik Aaryan’s latest sports drama, Chandu Champion, has completed its first week in theaters with a notable box office performance. Despite experiencing a slight dip in revenue on its seventh day, the film managed to collect ₹2.50 crore on Thursday, as reported by Sacnilk. This brings the film’s total domestic collection to ₹35.25 crore. The film, directed by Kabir Khan, premiered on June 14 and is based on the inspiring life of Murlikant Petkar, India’s first Paralympics gold medallist.
Chandu Champion features an ensemble cast including Vijay Raaz, Rajpal Yadav, Shreyas Talpade, Sonali Kulkarni, and Bhuvan Arora. The film is jointly produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, Kabir Khan, and Pen Studios.
The movie has garnered praise from both audiences and critics. On Thursday, Vidya Balan, Kartik Aaryan’s co-star from Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, expressed her admiration for the film on Instagram Stories. She congratulated Kartik Aaryan, Kabir Khan, and the entire team, praising the hard work and the inspiring true story depicted in the film. She remarked, “I was glued from the word go. If you haven’t seen it yet, please do.”
Javed Akhtar also commended Kartik Aaryan’s performance in Chandu Champion. On Tuesday, the renowned lyricist shared his positive review on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting Aaryan’s dedication to the role.
Film critic Saibal Chatterjee awarded Chandu Champion 2.5 out of 5 stars, noting that while the film is engaging and fast-paced, it could have benefited from less melodrama and more realism. Chatterjee praised Kartik Aaryan’s performance, stating that the actor delivered a career-best portrayal by fully immersing himself in the physically demanding role.
