The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has petitioned for a halt on the release of the upcoming Netflix documentary series titled “The Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth” until the conclusion of the trial in the Sheena Bora murder case. The documentary, slated for release on February 23, has raised concerns from the prosecution, alleging potential interference with the ongoing legal proceedings.
Indrani Mukerjea, a central figure in the Sheena Bora murder case, has been accused by the CBI of orchestrating the murder of her daughter, Sheena Bora, in 2012. Mukerjea, however, refutes these allegations, maintaining that Bora is alive and denying any involvement in her purported death.
In response to the looming release of the documentary series, the CBI has filed an application before the special CBI court, seeking an injunction against featuring any accused persons, including Indrani Mukerjea, in the documentary until the trial reaches a verdict. The prosecution asserts that the content of the documentary may prejudice the ongoing legal proceedings and impact the impartiality of the trial.
The application, served on Mukerjea’s legal representatives, Ranjit Sangle and Karan Singh Bhadoria, outlines the CBI’s concerns regarding potential bias and misinformation in the documentary. Additionally, the special court has issued notices to Mukerjea, Netflix Entertainment Services India, and other concerned parties, scheduling a hearing on February 20 to address the matter.
Indrani Mukerjea, along with her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamwar Rai, stands accused of conspiring to murder Sheena Bora in 2012. Allegedly, Bora was strangled inside a car in Mumbai on April 24, 2012, and her body was disposed of in a forest in Raigad district the following day.
The CBI contends that Mukerjea’s motive for the murder stemmed from her disapproval of Bora’s relationship with Rahul Mukerjea, the son of her ex-husband, media mogul Peter Mukerjea, who is also implicated in the case. Despite the prosecution’s assertions, Indrani Mukerjea has consistently maintained that Bora was not murdered but instead went abroad for studies in 2012.
As the legal battle surrounding the Sheena Bora murder case continues, the controversy surrounding the impending release of the documentary series adds another layer of complexity to the high-profile trial. The upcoming court hearing will play a pivotal role in determining the fate of the documentary and its potential impact on the judicial proceedings.
