Adolescence Overtakes Stranger Things 3 in Viewership, Joins Netflix’s All-Time Biggest Hits

‘Adolescence’ Surpasses Stranger Things 3 in Viewership, Becomes One of Netflix’s Biggest Hits

Netflix’s crime drama ‘Adolescence’ secures a spot among the platform’s most popular series, with British PM Keir Starmer backing its educational use in schools.

Netflix’s limited series Adolescence has taken the streaming world by storm, surpassing Stranger Things 3 in viewership and earning a place in the platform’s Top 10 most popular shows of all time. Since its release on March 13, 2025, the four-part crime drama has amassed 96.7 million views, with 30.4 million views recorded in the past week alone, according to Netflix’s latest report.

The series, created by Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham, has topped Netflix charts in all 93 countries and currently holds the 9th spot on Netflix’s all-time Top 10 list. Leading the rankings is Wednesday (Season 1), followed by Stranger Things (Season 4), DAHMER: Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Bridgerton (Season 1), The Queen’s Gambit, Bridgerton (Season 3), The Night Agent (Season 1), and Fool Me Once. Meanwhile, Stranger Things (Season 3) rounds out the list at the 10th position.

Adolescence and Its Impact

The show follows the gripping story of 13-year-old Jamie Miller (played by Owen Cooper), who is arrested for the murder of a girl at his school. The series features a powerful cast, including Stephen Graham, Ashley Walters, Erin Doherty, and Faye Marsay, and has received widespread acclaim for its raw storytelling and unique filming technique—each scene being shot in a single take.

Beyond its streaming success, Adolescence has gained political attention, with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer supporting an initiative to make the series available for free in UK secondary schools. The show will be accessible via the Into Film+ streaming service, with the charity Tender providing educational guides to help schools explore its themes of youth, social media influence, and crime.

Speaking about Adolescence, Starmer shared his personal experience:
“As a father, watching this show with my teenage son and daughter, I can tell you — it hit home hard,” he said, as quoted by Variety.
