In a resounding success at the box office, Arun Matheswaran’s latest directorial venture, Captain Miller, featuring Dhanush and Priyanka Mohan in lead roles, has made waves in its first two days of release. The film, which hit screens ahead of Pongal, has garnered substantial attention, collecting a net total of ₹16.15 crores in India over Friday and Saturday.
According to Sacnilk.com, Captain Miller witnessed a commendable opening, accumulating ₹8.7 crores net on its debut day, followed by ₹7.45 crores net on the second day across Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi languages. The film’s distribution saw it amass ₹8.05 crores in Tamil, ₹0.6 crores in Hindi, and ₹0.5 crores in Kannada on the opening day. Day 2 brought in ₹6.65 crores in Tamil, ₹0.7 crores in Hindi, and ₹0.1 crores in Kannada, with a modest dip of 14.37%.
The gross collections for Captain Miller reached ₹10 crores on the first day and ₹8.6 crores on the second day, resulting in an impressive total of ₹18.6 crores gross across all languages. Industry insiders anticipate a further surge in business with the release of the Telugu version in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on January 25.
Set against the backdrop of 1930s India during the pre-independence era, Captain Miller narrates the riveting story of Analeesan, also known as Easa and Captain Miller, portrayed by Dhanush. Despite being the brother of a freedom fighter, Eesa opts to join the British-Indian Army to earn respect. The film unfolds as an idle individual transforms into a revolutionary witness to heinous crimes against his people. Dhanush’s portrayal of the titular character has received acclaim, while Priyanka Mohan and Sundeep Kishan contribute to the film’s success in key roles, accompanied by music composed by GV Prakash.
