The long-running television show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has reportedly finalized an actor to take on the iconic role of Dayaben, years after Disha Vakani’s departure. According to a News18 report, the show’s team has been conducting mock shoots with the new actress for about a week.
New Dayaben Finalized
The report quoted a source from the production team, stating, “Yes, it is right. Asit ji had been looking for a new Dayaben, and recently, one of the auditions impressed him a lot. Mock shoots with the actress are underway. It’s been around a week that she has been here, shooting with us.”
The show, produced by Asit Modi, has been searching for a suitable replacement for Vakani for several years, as fans eagerly awaited the return of the beloved character.
Disha Vakani’s Iconic Portrayal and Exit
Disha Vakani originally played Dayaben and became one of the most cherished characters on Indian television. However, she went on maternity leave in 2018 and never returned to the show. Since then, the makers have faced immense pressure from fans to bring back the character.
In 2022, rumors circulated that Disha had developed throat cancer due to her signature high-pitched voice on the show. However, the show’s director, Malav Rajda, dismissed the reports as false.
Asit Modi’s Earlier Promise to Bring Back Disha Vakani
Two years ago, Asit Modi had reassured fans that Disha Vakani would return. In an interview with India Today, he said, “In this journey of 15 years, a hearty congratulations to all of them. One such artist is whom we cannot forget. That artist is Daya Bhabhi aka Disha Vakani. She has entertained the fans and also made us laugh for all these years. Fans have been waiting for her to come back, and I promise you all that Disha Vakani will soon be back to Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.”
