Excitement is building for Rishab Shetty fans as the release date for Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 has been officially announced. The prequel to the hugely successful Kantara, which earned critical acclaim and numerous accolades, will hit the big screens worldwide on October 2, 2025.
The announcement was made with a striking new poster shared on social media, giving fans a glimpse of Shetty’s intense new avatar. The image features Shetty holding a trident in one hand and an axe in the other, his shirtless, long-haired, and bearded look adding to the power of his character. The poster was accompanied by a caption that reads, “The moment has arrived. The divine forest whispers. #KantaraChapter1 Worldwide Grand Release on October 2, 2025.”
Kantara Chapter 1 will be released in multiple languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali, Hindi, and English, ensuring it reaches a wide audience across India and beyond.
Shetty, who also wrote, directed, and stars in the film, has expressed immense gratitude for the recognition his previous work in Kantara received. He won the prestigious Best Actor award at the 70th National Film Awards for his portrayal of a Kambala champion, and the film itself won the award for Best Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. In a statement, Shetty reflected on this honor, saying, “I am truly overwhelmed by the honour of this National Award for Kantara. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has been part of this journey, the incredible team of artists, technicians, and especially Hombale Films.”

The original Kantara, released in 2022, tells the story of a Kambala champion in the fictional village of Dakshina Kannada, who faces off against a forest range officer. The film became a massive hit, with its unique storytelling, thrilling action sequences, and a deep connection to folklore and tradition. It also starred Sapthami Gowda, Kishore, Achyuth Kumar, Pramod Shetty, and Prakash Thuminad.
