The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) announced the arrest of an Indo-Canadian man in connection with the shooting incident at the residence of Punjabi singer AP Dhillon. The arrest took place on October 30, and was confirmed in a press release by the West Shore detachment of the RCMP.
The incident, which occurred on September 2, involved gunfire directed at Dhillon’s home, accompanied by arson that resulted in two vehicles being set ablaze. The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Abjeet Kingra, a resident of Winnipeg, Manitoba, has been charged with discharge of a firearm with intent and arson. He was apprehended in Ontario.
Authorities have also issued an arrest warrant for 23-year-old Vikram Sharma, who is believed to be currently in India. Superintendent Todd Preston, Officer-in-charge of West Shore RCMP, emphasized that the investigation would continue, stating, “We will continue to pursue this investigation as well as the outstanding suspect until they have been located and arrested.”
While the police did not officially link the incident to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in their release, Canadian media have reported that AP Dhillon was targeted by the gang due to his association with Bollywood actor Salman Khan. This has raised concerns amidst allegations from the Indian government, which claimed that Indian agents were involved in a series of violent crimes in Canada. Following these allegations, India withdrew six diplomats and officials from Canada on October 14, after they were declared “persons of interest” in ongoing investigations by the RCMP and other Canadian law enforcement agencies.
The shooting incident has intensified scrutiny on the relationship between Canadian law enforcement and organized crime, particularly regarding the activities of gangs operating across borders. As investigations proceed, further details are expected to emerge regarding the motivations behind the attack on AP Dhillon and any potential connections to wider criminal networks.
