Bad Newz, the latest romantic comedy directed by Anand Tiwari and starring Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri, and Ammy Virk, has made a strong impression at the box office, nearing the ₹30 crore mark in India during its opening weekend.
According to Sacnilk, the film has shown impressive consistency in its earnings throughout the weekend. On its third day, Sunday, Bad Newz added ₹11.15 crore to its total collection, bringing its domestic weekend tally to ₹29.7 crore. This follows a solid performance on Saturday, where it earned ₹10.25 crore, and an opening day collection of ₹8.3 crore.
The opening day earnings for Bad Newz turned out to be the highest of Vicky Kaushal’s career, surpassing even the opening numbers of his biggest hit, Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019). Despite receiving mixed reviews, the film has garnered positive word-of-mouth, which may contribute to its continued success.
In a gesture of appreciation, Vicky Kaushal visited a late-night screening of Bad Newz in Mumbai on Saturday. He expressed his gratitude to the audience for attending despite the rainy weather, took selfies with fans, and even performed his popular track “Tauba Tauba” with the crowd.
Produced by Amritpal Singh Bindra, Apoorva Mehta, and Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, Bad Newz is described as a “rare comedy film inspired by true events” focusing on the concept of heteropaternal superfecundation—a reproductive phenomenon where twins share the same mother but have different biological fathers. The film also features Neha Dhupia in a pivotal role.
Bad Newz serves as a spiritual sequel to Raj Mehta’s 2019 hit romantic comedy Good Newwz, which starred Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Diljit Dosanjh, and Kiara Advani. With its engaging premise and notable performances, the film is expected to continue performing well at the box office.
