The much-anticipated historical drama Chhava, starring Vicky Kaushal, has shifted its release date to February 14, 2025. Initially set for December 6, 2024, the film was poised to face stiff competition from Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule, releasing just a day prior.
Reason Behind the Postponement
Announcing the decision, trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared on social media, “Chhava is now set for a theatrical release on 14 Feb 2025. The date holds special significance as it aligns with the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on February 19, 2025.”
With Pushpa 2 already generating massive buzz, the makers of Chhava appear to have strategically moved the release date to avoid a box office clash, ensuring better prospects for the Vicky Kaushal-led film. The shift also benefits Rashmika Mandanna, who stars in both films, avoiding a clash between her own projects.
About Chhava
Chhava is a period drama centered on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the valiant Maratha Emperor and son of Shivaji Maharaj. Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan, the film features Vicky Kaushal in the titular role. Akshaye Khanna plays the role of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, while Rashmika Mandanna is also part of the cast.
The film’s title, Chhava, translates to “lion cub” in Marathi—a nod to Sambhaji’s nickname, symbolizing his courage and legacy as the heir of Shivaji Maharaj, often referred to as the lion of the Maratha Empire.
About Pushpa 2
Directed by Sukumar, Pushpa 2: The Rule stars Allu Arjun in the lead, reprising his iconic role as Pushpa Raj. The film also features Fahadh Faasil and Rashmika Mandanna. The sequel is highly anticipated, given the massive success of its predecessor, Pushpa: The Rise.
Significance of the New Date
The new release date for Chhava is not just a strategic move but also a tribute to the Maratha Empire. With the film releasing close to Shivaji Maharaj’s birth anniversary, the makers aim to resonate with audiences on an emotional and cultural level.
This rescheduling reflects the careful planning of the filmmakers to ensure that Chhava gets its deserved spotlight in theaters without being overshadowed by another blockbuster.
