Superboys of Malegaon, directed by Reema Kagti, hit the theatres on February 28 but struggled to make an impact at the box office on its opening day. Inspired by the 2008 documentary Supermen of Malegaon, the film explores the journey of amateur filmmakers in the small town of Malegaon. Despite receiving a mixed-to-positive response from critics, the film had a lackluster start in terms of earnings.
Superboys of Malegaon Box Office Performance
According to trade tracking site Sacnilk, Superboys of Malegaon managed to collect only ₹45 lakh on its opening day. The film recorded a mere 8.85% occupancy, with lower turnout in morning and afternoon shows. It also became the lowest-opening film of 2025 so far, replacing Loveyapa, which had collected ₹1.15 crore on its debut.
Despite its unique storyline, Superboys of Malegaon failed to surpass other recent releases like Sohum Shah’s Crazxy, which earned ₹90 lakh on its first day. Other underperforming films this year include Badass Ravikumar (₹2.75 crore), Azaad (₹1.5 crore), and Mere Husband Ki Biwi (₹1.5 crore).

Speaking about the film’s fictionalized elements, director Reema Kagti told HT, “We haven’t made up anything. It may not be historically accurate, or we may have combined a person or two together. We have taken those kinds of liberties, but everything we have taken is from his life.”
