Legendary singer Sonu Nigam has publicly addressed an incident during his performance at the Rising Rajasthan event, urging politicians not to attend events if they cannot stay for the entire performance. This call for respect comes after a few political dignitaries, including the Chief Minister (CM) and several ministers, left his performance midway, sparking a conversation about the treatment of artists at public functions.
The Incident That Prompted the Appeal
In a heartfelt video shared on Instagram, Sonu Nigam expressed his disappointment at the conduct of some political attendees. Speaking in Hindi, he recounted the event, which saw several prominent figures leaving in the middle of his performance. He said, “Delegates came from all over the world to enhance the pride of Rajasthan. There was a CM, a youth minister, a sports minister. There were a lot of people. I could not see all of them in the dark.”
However, he was quick to point out that the situation took a turn when the CM and other politicians exited the event before his performance had concluded. “In the middle of the show, I saw that the CM and the rest of the people left. As soon as they left, all the delegates also left. I have a request to all politicians, if you do not respect your artists, then what will the people outside do?” he said.
Sonu Nigam’s Appeal to Politicians
The singer, known for iconic hits like Kal Ho Naa Ho, Yeh Dil Deewana, and others, directly addressed the political figures in his video. He emphasized the importance of respecting both the art and the artist, saying, “If you have to leave, then do not come. Or leave before the show starts. Leaving in the middle of an artist’s performance is very disrespectful. This is an insult to Saraswati.”
He further urged that politicians should plan their attendance better to avoid disrupting the event, stating, “If you have to leave, then leave before the show starts. You are great, you have a lot of work. You handle all the responsibilities. You should not waste your time in a show. You should leave early. Thank you. Very humbly, I request all of you.”
A Humble Request
In his Instagram caption, Sonu Nigam reiterated his message, saying, “A humble request to all the respected Politicians of India, kindly don’t attend any performance of any artiste if you have to abruptly leave midway. This is disrespect to Art and Artistes and Maa Sarasvati.”
The singer’s appeal has sparked widespread conversation about the treatment of artists at public events and has raised questions about the responsibilities of dignitaries in showing respect for the arts. Politicians, often the center of attention at high-profile events, have been urged to plan their schedules accordingly to avoid such controversies in the future.
