Salman Khan’s much-hyped action film Sikandar, directed by AR Murugadoss, has resurfaced in public discourse following its release on Netflix on May 25. Unfortunately for the superstar, the OTT debut has reignited criticism that had earlier plagued the movie during its theatrical run. Social media is now abuzz with negative reactions, with many viewers calling the film “boring,” “illogical,” and a “disaster.”
Originally released in theatres on March 30 as Salman’s first Eid release in two years, Sikandar promised high-octane action and a gripping narrative. The film tells the story of Sanjay Rajkot, a man who takes on a corrupt political system. Despite grossing over ₹200 crore worldwide, it was considered a box office underperformer, especially given Salman Khan’s past hits.
Now streaming on Netflix, Sikandar is once again under the scanner. Viewers expressed their disappointment on X (formerly Twitter), with some going as far as to call the film “unwatchable.” One user remarked, “Couldn’t watch even 10 minutes of #Sikandar on #Netflix. #SalmanKhan should avoid such disastrous movies or consider seriously retiring from acting.” Another sarcastically added, “You have a lot of guts that you even try to watch that movie.”
A number of netizens took jabs at the film’s weak storytelling and subpar direction. One comment summed up the sentiment: “High budget movies, high expectations – Foolish Work.” Comparisons with Shah Rukh Khan’s recent successful action outings such as Pathaan and Jawan were inevitable. “Learn from #SRK and his recent action movies. There is a great improvement in his work,” another user advised.
Some viewers also pointed out issues with the casting and direction. Rashmika Mandanna, who stars opposite Salman, was particularly criticized for her dialogue delivery and chemistry with the much older actor. Her character’s attempt at justifying the noticeable age gap with the line “Hamari umar mein fark zaroor hai, par soch mein nahi” was widely mocked online.
The film also featured Kajal Aggarwal, Sharman Joshi, Prateik Babbar, and Sathyaraj. While the ensemble cast created initial buzz, the final product failed to impress many. One frustrated viewer said, “Watching it was like watching a badly dubbed South flop film. You can’t make anyone from the South believe that #Sikandar was directed by #ARMurugadoss.”
Despite the criticism, a handful of fans defended the film. “#Sikandar is way better than #Gamechanger or #Indian2. Don’t think it deserved all the trolling and hate it got,” said a fan. Another posted, “Far-fetched and no logic, and too many convenient twists, but still watchable.”
Whether the film finds a second life on streaming remains to be seen, but the polarizing reactions indicate that Sikandar is far from being forgotten — for better or worse.
