Renowned Tamil filmmaker Suresh Sangaiah, celebrated for his directorial debut Oru Kidayin Karunai Manu, passed away on Friday at 11 PM in Chennai. The filmmaker, aged 46, succumbed to liver failure while undergoing treatment at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital. Cinematographer Saran, who worked with Suresh on the acclaimed 2017 Tamil dramedy, confirmed the news of his demise.
Career Highlights
Suresh Sangaiah began his filmmaking journey as an assistant to director M. Manikandan on the National Award-winning film Kaaka Muttai. In 2017, he made his directorial debut with Oru Kidayin Karunai Manu, a low-budget dramedy starring Vidharth in the lead role. The film received critical acclaim and became a sleeper hit, cementing Suresh’s place as a promising talent in Tamil cinema.
His second film, Sathiya Sothanai, was completed just before the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the four-year delay in its theatrical release impacted its success, and it failed to replicate the acclaim and box office performance of his debut.
Suresh had been working on his third project, featuring veteran actor Yogi Babu in the lead. Planned as a direct-to-digital release on Disney+ Hotstar, the film was left unfinished due to his untimely death.

Reports suggest that Suresh was battling jaundice in his final days, which progressed to liver failure. Despite receiving treatment, he could not recover.
Fans and admirers of Suresh Sangaiah’s work also shared their condolences, praising his unique storytelling and contributions to Tamil cinema.
