Ajay Devgn’s latest thriller Raid 2 has successfully crossed the ₹100 crore mark at the Indian box office on its ninth day of release, a milestone that underscores the film’s growing popularity despite mixed-to-positive reviews.
Released nationwide on May 1, Raid 2 is the sequel to the 2018 hit Raid, and it once again features Ajay Devgn as the Indian Revenue Service Officer Amay Patnaik, alongside Vaani Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh in pivotal roles. According to early estimates by Sacnilk.com, the film’s collections surged on its second Friday, reaching ₹100.21 crore, following a ₹4.46 crore earnings on the day.
Raid 2 had a solid opening day, grossing ₹19.25 crore, which was an impressive start, even surpassing the opening day of Ajay’s 2022 release Drishyam 2 which earned ₹15.38 crore at the domestic box office. Despite new releases competing for attention, Raid 2 managed to maintain its momentum and steadily bring in audiences during its first week.
The film has been performing well, maintaining a healthy Hindi occupancy rate of 9.04% on its second Friday. Audiences have been drawn to the film’s twists and turns, with the story continuing the high-stakes drama that started in the first Raid film. However, it’s not all praise—while the film’s plot keeps audiences guessing, some critics have pointed out the film’s reliance on plot conveniences, which may undermine certain character arcs.
Director Raj Kumar Gupta, known for his work on thrillers like No One Killed Jessica, has received commendations for his tight control over the suspenseful unfolding of events in Raid 2. However, some of the film’s narrative choices, particularly regarding the ease with which the protagonist, Amay Patnaik, gets help from unexpected sources, have drawn criticism.
Despite these critiques, the film’s commercial success continues to reflect the star power of Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, and the solid performances from the supporting cast, including Saurabh Shukla, who reprises his role from the first Raid film.
In summary, Raid 2 has proven to be a box office success, crossing ₹100 crore in just nine days, continuing Ajay Devgn’s strong track record at the domestic box office and bolstering the reputation of the Raid franchise.
