Dhanush’s latest directorial venture, Raayan, has made a remarkable impact at the box office, raking in ₹42.65 crore over its opening weekend. Released last Friday, the film has been celebrated for its strong performance and has been dubbed a “blockbuster” birthday gift for the actor-director, who celebrated his birthday on Sunday.
According to Sacnilk.com, Raayan saw impressive numbers over its first three days. The film earned ₹13.65 crore on its opening day. On Saturday, it experienced a slight increase of 0.73%, collecting ₹13.75 crore. By Sunday, collections surged by 10.91%, bringing in ₹15.25 crore. This strong performance has solidified Raayan as a major hit, with Tamil Nadu contributing ₹33.75 crore of the total earnings. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana followed with ₹5.65 crore, and Karnataka contributed ₹5.45 crore.
In a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter), Dhanush expressed his gratitude to fans for their support. He wrote, “My sincere thanks to the audience, film fraternity, friends, press and media, and my pillars of support – my fans for showering me with all your blessings. This is the best blockbuster birthday gift ever. Om Namashivhaaya! With love, D.” The actor’s note was accompanied by folded hands and heart emojis, reflecting his appreciation for the overwhelming response.
Raayan marks Dhanush’s 50th film and his second directorial project, following his 2017 debut with Pa Paandi. The film features a notable cast including Kalidas Jayaram, Sundeep Kishan, and SJ Suryah. The plot centers on Kathavaraayan, also known as Raayan, a hotel owner in Chennai who seeks vengeance against the gangs that previously harmed his family.
The film’s success has also been highlighted by fellow industry members. Raghava Lawrence took to X to commend the movie, praising Dhanush’s direction and performance. He wrote, “Amazing direction and acting by @dhanushkraja sir. A different performance by @iamSJSuryah brother. Good job by @officialdushara and promising performances by everyone.” Lawrence also lauded AR Rahman’s music and the overall screenplay, stating, “Outstanding Bgm by @arrahman sir. Looking ahead, Dhanush is set to direct a new rom-com titled Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam, featuring Pavish, Anikha Surendran, Priya Prakash Varrier, and others. He is also slated to star in Sekhar Kammula’s Kubera, alongside Rashmika Mandanna, Nagarjuna, and Jim Sarbh.
