In a recent press meet held to promote the much-anticipated film Hari Hara Veera Mallu (HHVM), music composer MM Keeravaani revealed that the lead actor and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan insisted on changing some objectifying lyrics in the film’s ‘item song.’ The move has won praise from fans but also sparked questions on why such a song was included in a period film centered on a legendary outlaw fighting injustice.
Speaking at the event, Keeravaani said, “The story of Hari Hara Veera Mallu perfectly suits Pawan Kalyan, who is known for fighting against injustice. He has a fire that cannot be extinguished.” He then disclosed that the film features a special number titled Tara Tara, commonly referred to as an ‘item song.’ “We all know how item songs usually have lyrics that go beyond romantic themes. Some lyrics were initially written with Pawan Kalyan in mind, but he objected, saying, ‘I’m in a position of responsibility now, so you need to redo them,’” Keeravaani added.
Pawan Kalyan’s fans have lauded his decision to address the lyrics, with many commenting “Great” and calling him “Maa anna bangaram” (Our brother is gold). However, some internet users questioned the very presence of an item song in a film like Hari Hara Veera Mallu. Comments included, “What happened to your sense, Keeravaani? Why does a film like this even need an item song?” and “Despite knowing he is the Deputy CM, how do you write objectionable lyrics for an item song?”
Others wondered why the song wasn’t removed entirely, saying, “Our great leader asked them to change the lyrics but not remove the song.” Another user questioned, “Why was the item song included at all?”
Hari Hara Veera Mallu narrates the tale of a legendary outlaw who fights against injustice. Apart from Pawan Kalyan, the film stars Bobby Deol, Nidhhi Agerwal, Nargis Fakhri, and Nora Fatehi. It is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 12, 2025.
