The Final Reckoning storms Indian box office with ₹17.5 crore opening, surpasses all 2025 Marvel films and several Bollywood biggies
Tom Cruise has once again proved his box office mettle in India. The Hollywood superstar’s latest action spectacle, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, opened to a thunderous response in Indian theatres on May 17, collecting ₹17.5 crore on its first day. Released six days ahead of its global premiere, the film registered the highest day-one collection for any Hollywood film in 2025 so far.
According to data from Sacnilk.com, the film clocked an impressive 75.61% occupancy in English-language screenings. This opening figure surpasses not just Cruise’s previous outing Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, which earned ₹12 crore in 2023, but also outperformed Marvel Studios’ latest offerings in India, including Captain America: Brave New World (₹4.2 crore) and Thunderbolts (₹3.8 crore).
The Final Reckoning has also outshined several big-ticket Hindi films, such as Akshay Kumar’s Kesari 2 (₹7.5 crore) and Sunny Deol’s Jaat (₹9.50 crore). In comparison, other major Hollywood titles this year, like Minecraft: The Movie and Disney’s Snow White, opened to just ₹2 crore and ₹65 lakh respectively.
A Grand Return for Ethan Hunt
Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who has helmed the franchise since Rogue Nation, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning brings back Tom Cruise as the legendary IMF agent Ethan Hunt. The film also stars Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Angela Bassett, Esai Morales, and others in pivotal roles.
Originally planned as Dead Reckoning – Part Two, the film was retitled following the release of its predecessor. It is being hailed as one of the most emotionally resonant entries in the franchise and is available in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu across Indian theatres.
Early Reviews Praise Cruise’s Performance
Critics have praised The Final Reckoning for delivering high-octane action with an emotional core. A review of the film calls it “a throwback to the good old days, where simplicity and action triumphed.” Tom Cruise, in particular, has been lauded for delivering “his most emotionally charged performance in years,” once again solidifying his place as one of the greatest action stars of all time.
With a record-breaking opening day in India, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is poised to become one of the most successful Hollywood films of the year and continues to build anticipation ahead of its global release.
