Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor Khan has been served a court notice by the Madhya Pradesh High Court regarding her recently released pregnancy memoir titled “Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Pregnancy Bible.” This notice comes in response to an advocate’s petition objecting to the use of the word “bible” in the book’s title.
The notice was issued by a single-judge bench of Justice Gurpal Singh Ahluwalia after advocate Christopher Anthony filed a petition against Kapoor Khan and the book’s sellers. Anthony’s petition argues that the use of “bible” in the title is insensitive to the Christian community’s sentiments, as the term refers to the holy book of Christianity worldwide.
Anthony, a social worker from Jabalpur, stated in his petition that comparing Kapoor Khan’s pregnancy journey to the Bible is inappropriate and accuses the actor of using the word for “cheap publicity” for her book.
The book, published in 2021, details Kapoor Khan’s experiences during her pregnancy at the age of 43 and offers advice for expecting mothers on various aspects like diet, fitness, self-care, and nursery preparation.
Initially, Anthony sought to file a First Information Report (FIR) against Kapoor Khan with the police, but his request was declined. Subsequently, he approached a lower court to file a complaint, which was also rejected for failing to demonstrate how the use of “bible” in the title was offensive. Anthony then took the matter to the Additional Sessions Court, which also dismissed his petition.
The court’s notice to Kapoor Khan calls for an explanation regarding the choice of the title and its potential implications on religious sentiments. Sellers of the book have also been issued notices in response to Anthony’s demand for a ban on its sale.
Kapoor Khan’s “Pregnancy Bible” has garnered attention for its insights into pregnancy and motherhood, but the controversy surrounding its title highlights the delicate balance between artistic expression and respecting religious sensitivities.
