Karan Johar Suspends All Pre-Release Screenings at Dharma Productions: ‘A Tough Decision to Make’

Karan Johar Halts Pre-Release Screenings at Dharma Productions: A Difficult Decision to Preserve Cinematic Experience

In a major shift, filmmaker and producer Karan Johar has decided to stop pre-release screenings of films produced by his banner, Dharma Productions. The decision, which Karan described as “difficult,” aims to maintain the excitement and integrity of the cinematic experience for all audiences, including the media.

No More Pre-Release Screenings On Monday, Karan Johar and Dharma Productions’ CEO Apoorva Mehta issued a statement addressing the media. The statement emphasized the importance of the media’s support over the years and explained the reasons behind this decision.

“For decades, you have firmly stood by us at Dharma Productions, supporting our films, sharing our dreams, and celebrating our victories. Your faith in us has been a driving force throughout our journey, and we’d like to take this moment to extend our deepest and heartfelt gratitude to you all. Each coverage, review, and feedback has been invaluable to us, and they have undeniably helped us make our films reach audiences far and wide,” the note read.

The statement continued by explaining the rationale behind the decision: “As we continue to evolve, we find ourselves at a juncture where we must adapt and innovate our approach. After much deliberation, we’ve unanimously decided to forgo pre-release screenings for our upcoming films. This decision has been difficult to make, but we believe it’s necessary to ensure that every viewer, including our friends in the media, witnesses our stories as they were meant to be experienced. We believe it will help in maintaining the excitement of the cinematic experience for all.”

Press Screenings to be Held on Release Day Despite canceling pre-release screenings, Karan and his team acknowledged the importance of reviews for a film’s success. To accommodate this, Dharma Productions will now host press screenings on the first half of the release day, allowing media members to provide timely reviews.

“We understand the importance of timely reviews and the role they play in the success of our films. Therefore, we are pleased to announce that we will be hosting press screenings in the first half of the release day for each of our movies. We warmly welcome all media personnel to join us at these screenings, where you will be the first to witness our latest offerings,” the statement concluded.

Karan Johar Responds to Vasan Bala’s Jigra Comment Earlier this week, Karan Johar addressed the controversy surrounding a comment made by Jigra director Vasan Bala regarding the script of the film. Vasan had mentioned that an unfinished version of the script had been sent to lead actor Alia Bhatt, which sparked some negative reactions.

Karan, taking to Instagram, clarified the situation and expressed his frustration over the “misinterpretation” of Vasan Bala’s comment. He wrote, “The misinterpretation of his comment about me sending the script to Alia without his grammar checks made me laugh initially at the ludicrousness of it all, but now it is truly annoying me. Vasan continues to be one of my most talented and wonderful collaborators. If you see his interview and hear his tone, you will totally get it! But no… much ado about nothing is all over the place. I fold my hands and tell everyone, please hear and read entire interviews before making clickbait assumptions.”

Upcoming Film: Jigra Karan Johar is currently looking forward to the release of Jigra, which stars Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina. The film, backed by both Karan and Alia, revolves around a brother-sister duo, with Alia playing the role of Satya and Vedang as her brother Ankur. The action-packed narrative focuses on a prison break, with the story highlighting the lengths a sister would go to protect her sibling.
