Nag Ashwin’s sci-fi epic “Kalki 2898 AD” saw a significant boost in box office business over the weekend, officially joining the ₹500 crore club in India. According to sacnilk.com, the film, featuring stars Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, grossed ₹506.87 crore on its 11th day of release.
Released in theatres on June 27, “Kalki 2898 AD” has been performing exceptionally well. On its 11th day, the film earned ₹41.17 crore (nett) in India across all languages, pushing its total domestic collection to ₹506.87 crore. The film saw a considerable increase in weekend business, which was the second weekend since its release.
“Kalki 2898 AD” had an impressive opening day, earning ₹95.3 crore on June 27, and concluded its first week with a total of ₹414.85 crore. Although there was a slight dip in collections mid-week, the film regained momentum over the weekend, earning ₹34.15 crore on Day 10.
Globally, the multilingual 3D spectacle has also crossed the ₹800 crore mark. Directed by Nag Ashwin, “Kalki 2898 AD” is touted as the most expensive Indian film ever produced, with a reported budget of ₹600 crore. The film released in multiple languages, including Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, and English.
The cast includes Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, Prabhas, Disha Patani, Saswata Chatterjee, and Shobhana, among others.
Sequel Announced
In a recent press conference, director Nag Ashwin confirmed a sequel to “Kalki 2898 AD.” Initially intended as a single film, Ashwin realized the challenge of fitting four main characters—Bhairava (Prabhas), SU-M80 (Deepika), Ashwatthama (Amitabh), and Supreme Yaskin (Kamal)—into one narrative. The sequel will explore more action and backstories, with additional shooting and new characters yet to be cast.
