Nag Ashwin’s highly anticipated film, Kalki 2898 AD, has made a powerful impact at the box office, earning a staggering ₹149.3 crore in just two days. The film, featuring an impressive star cast including Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani, released in theatres on June 27 in multiple languages.
On its opening day, Thursday, the film raked in a massive ₹95.3 crore. The momentum continued on Friday with an additional ₹54 crore, according to Sacnilk. Breaking down the collections by language, the Telugu version led with ₹25.65 crore, the Hindi dub followed with ₹22.5 crore, and the Tamil version earned ₹3.5 crore. The Kannada and Malayalam versions contributed ₹0.35 crore and ₹2 crore, respectively.
Despite the impressive box office numbers, the film received mixed reviews from critics. Saibal Chatterjee, a film critic, awarded the film 2.5 stars out of 5. He praised Prabhas for his strong presence and Deepika Padukone for her splendid portrayal of a pregnant woman on the run. Chatterjee also highlighted Amitabh Bachchan’s towering performance as Ashwatthama and Saswata Chatterjee’s moments as the antagonist. However, he noted that the film’s spectacle often overshadowed its narrative about mankind’s dangers due to its own profligate ways.
