With the highly anticipated premiere of Superman just weeks away, director and DC Studios co-head James Gunn has addressed key questions about the film’s runtime and recent rumours of studio interference.
Set to release on July 11, Superman marks the launch of the new DC Universe Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Fans have been eager to know how long the film will be, and Gunn has now confirmed that the movie, including credits and post-credit scenes, will run for exactly 2 hours and 9 minutes.
Responding to a fan query on the social media platform Threads, Gunn clarified, “Inclusive of credits/post credits, the runtime is 2 hours 9 minutes.”
The director also firmly dismissed circulating reports that Warner Bros. had requested him to cut down the film’s length. “Zero truth to that,” Gunn said, adding that the film is a DC Studios production and thus outside Warner Bros.’ influence. “And they couldn’t even if that’s something they wanted to,” he noted.
This statement puts to rest speculation that the studio had any role in editing or trimming the movie.
About the Film
Written, directed, and co-produced by James Gunn, Superman stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent. The film explores Clark’s internal struggles as he balances his Kryptonian heritage with his life in Smallville alongside his adoptive family. The story aims to deepen the mythology of the Man of Steel, going beyond a simple origin tale to explore his dual identity and place in the new DC Universe.
The cast boasts several notable names: Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult is cast as Lex Luthor, and Edi Gathegi takes on the role of Michael Holt/Mister Terrific. Anthony Carrigan will portray Rex Mason/Metamorpho, while Nathan Fillion is set to appear as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern. Isabela Merced joins as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl. The film also features characters crossing over from the established DC Universe, including Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Maria Gabriela de Faria as Angela Spica/The Engineer, and Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl.
Superman is more than just a reboot; it signals a fresh chapter under Gunn’s leadership, combining an exciting ensemble cast with a story that bridges the hero’s extraterrestrial origins and his human upbringing.
As July 11 approaches, anticipation is building for what promises to be a defining film for the DC franchise.
