The much-anticipated biopic Kalam, featuring Dhanush as the iconic Bharat Ratna Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, has stirred excitement with the release of its first-look poster. The film, which was launched at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, promises to be a grand cinematic tribute to the beloved “Missile Man of India” and former President of India.
On May 21, Dhanush took to Instagram to share the poster, which immediately caught the attention of fans and cinephiles alike. The poster visually captures the essence of Kalam’s inspiring journey: two silhouettes flanking a missile soaring into the sky amid a plume of smoke. Alongside the image, Dhanush expressed his reverence for the role, writing, “I feel truly blessed and deeply humbled to be portraying the life of such an inspirational and magnanimous leader — our very own Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, sir.”
APJ Abdul Kalam’s legacy as a visionary aerospace scientist and the “People’s President” is well-known. Kalam is directed by Om Raut, known for his epic storytelling, and produced by Abhishek Agarwal and Bhushan Kumar under Abhishek Agarwal Arts and T-Series banners. The screenplay is penned by Saiwyn Quadras.
Speaking on the significance of the film, Om Raut shared, “In an era starved of true statesmen, Kalam stood above politics and pettiness. He was a man who was known for the power of education, excellence, and indigenous innovation. To bring his story to the screen is an artistic challenge and a moral and cultural responsibility.” He added, “It’s a story that’s inspirational for global youth and especially the youth of the Global South. His life is a lesson that is bound to connect with people no matter who they are and where they come from.”
Producer Abhishek Agarwal expressed his enthusiasm about the project, stating, “We are privileged to tell this story, and each of us is giving our best to bring to life the journey of our true Bharat Ratna Kalam ji.
