Shahid Kapoor’s latest action thriller, Deva, is steadily making its mark at the box office. The film, which hit theaters on January 31, has garnered ₹28.15 crore in its first week and is inching closer to the ₹30 crore milestone.

On its seventh day (Wednesday), Deva collected ₹1.50 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The film recorded an overall 6.70% Hindi occupancy on its first Thursday.

Directed by Rosshan Andrrews, Deva features Shahid Kapoor in the role of ACP Dev Ambre, while Pooja Hegde plays Diya Sathaye. The film also stars Pavail Gulati, Pravesh Rana, Kubbra Sait, Girish Kulkarni, Manish Wadhwa, and Gaurav More in key roles.
Ahead of the film’s release, Shahid Kapoor discussed his role in an interview with NDTV, stating that Deva presents a unique character he has not portrayed before. When asked if his role resembled his previous angry-young-man characters, Shahid humorously replied, “Face toh wahi hai, thoda toh similarity hoga” (The face is the same, so there might be some similarities).
Critical Reception
The film has received a mixed-to-positive response from critics. NDTV’s Saibal Chatterjee gave Deva a 3-star rating, highlighting its intense portrayal of a troubled Mumbai cop. He wrote, “Deva journeys into the mind of a scarred and smouldering Mumbai policeman, who lets his fists do most of the talking. But when his memory goes missing, his reactive muscle impulses take over.”
