In a significant stride towards revolutionizing the digital entertainment landscape, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated ‘CSpace,’ the nation’s maiden government-backed Over-The-Top (OTT) platform. Designed to address prevalent challenges in content curation and distribution, CSpace marks a pioneering venture initiated by the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Affairs of the Government of Kerala.
As reported by the Wire, CSpace emerges as a timely response to the evolving dynamics of the OTT sector, offering a meticulously curated selection of content that upholds artistic, cultural, and entertainment values. Shaji N Karun, esteemed film director and Chairman of KSFDC, emphasized the platform’s commitment to overcoming industry imbalances and challenges, as quoted by the Indian Express.
Key highlights of CSpace include its rigorous content evaluation process, wherein submissions undergo thorough scrutiny by three esteemed curators. Only content meeting stringent quality criteria earns a coveted spot on the platform. The initial phase of CSpace features a diverse array of 42 films, comprising 35 feature films, six documentaries, and one short film. Notably, selections encompass national or state award-winning works and films showcased in prominent film festivals.
Transparency stands as a cornerstone of CSpace’s operations, with clear delineation of earnings and revenue-sharing mechanisms. The platform boasts a distinguished panel of 60 curators, including luminaries such as Benyamin, O.V. Usha, Santhosh Sivan, Shyamaprasad, Sunny Joseph, and Jeo Baby, ensuring a rich and diverse content catalog.
CSpace introduces a pay-per-view model, offering users access to premium content at an affordable rate of ₹75 per movie. This approach aims to democratize access to quality entertainment while supporting creators and fostering a vibrant digital ecosystem.
The launch of CSpace signifies Kerala’s progressive stance in embracing digital innovation to promote cultural heritage and artistic expression. As the first government-owned OTT platform in India, CSpace paves the way for collaborative endeavors that elevate content standards and cater to diverse audience preferences.
