The makers of Amaran, starring Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi, have resolved a legal dispute involving an engineering student from Chennai by modifying a scene that featured his phone number. The issue arose after the film inadvertently showcased the real number, leading to incessant calls and legal action.
The Controversy
The engineering student, VV Vaageesan, sent a legal notice to the producers after receiving countless calls from Sai Pallavi’s fans following the film’s release on October 31. The calls began while Vaageesan was celebrating Diwali with his family. Initially perplexed, he soon discovered his number had been displayed in a scene from the song Hey Minnale, where Sai Pallavi’s character, Indu, writes her phone number on a chit.
The number, which is linked to crucial personal documents like Aadhaar and bank accounts, caused significant disruption for Vaageesan, making it difficult for him to consider changing it. He demanded ₹1.1 crore in compensation for the “untold hardships and mental agony” caused by the oversight.
Action Taken by Amaran Producers
To address the issue, the producers of Amaran have blurred the phone number in the scene. This modification has been implemented across all platforms where the film is available, including Netflix and the YouTube music video of Hey Minnale.
About the Film
Amaran is an adaptation of Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh’s book series India’s Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Military Heroes. The film narrates the story of Major Mukund, a heroic soldier who lost his life during a counterterrorism operation and was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra.
Despite the controversy, Amaran has been a massive box office success, grossing over ₹300 crore since its release.
Moving Forward
With the issue addressed, the film continues to receive accolades for its powerful storytelling. This incident, however, serves as a reminder of the importance of thorough attention to detail in creative productions to avoid unintended consequences.
