Alia Bhatt, known for her versatile acting and acclaimed performances, recently opened up about her diagnosis of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). In a candid interview with The Lallantop, the actress shared her lifelong struggle with staying present, revealing how she discovered she is on the ADHD spectrum after undergoing a psychological test.
“I used to zone out from a young age. In school or during conversations, I would often get lost,” Bhatt confessed. She only recently discovered that these symptoms were tied to ADHD, a condition she had not previously been aware of. “When I told my friends, they were like, ‘We always knew.’ But it wasn’t a revelation for them—it was for me,” she added.
Bhatt also touched on how ADHD affects her daily life, particularly in moments where she needs to concentrate. Despite these challenges, the actress has found a sense of peace and presence in two specific areas of her life—acting and motherhood. “I am most present when I am in front of the camera. That’s when I become the character and feel fully focused. After the birth of my daughter Raha, I now feel most present when I’m with her,” she said, reflecting on the grounding influence motherhood has had on her.
The revelation of Bhatt’s ADHD diagnosis came after the actress discussed her experiences in a September interview with Allure Magazine. She mentioned how her ADHD impacts her professional routine, particularly in her approach to makeup and preparation. “I can’t spend more than 45 minutes in a makeup chair. I have ADD and just can’t invest too much time,” Bhatt explained. Even on her wedding day, she pushed back against traditional time-consuming beauty routines, telling her makeup artist, Puneet B Saini, that she would not give her two hours because she wanted to relax and enjoy the moment.
Alia Bhatt married fellow actor Ranbir Kapoor in an intimate ceremony at their Mumbai residence in 2022. The couple welcomed their daughter, Raha, later, a milestone that Bhatt credits for helping her feel more grounded and connected in her daily life.
Professionally, Bhatt continues to shine on the big screen. Her latest film, Jigra, debuted in theatres on October 11 to widespread praise. Fans are also eagerly awaiting her upcoming project, Love & War, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, in which she stars alongside her husband Ranbir Kapoor and Raazi co-star Vicky Kaushal. Additionally, she is set to appear in Yash Raj Films’ Alpha, featuring Sharvari Wagh.
Despite her ADHD diagnosis, Alia Bhatt remains a powerhouse in the Indian film industry, balancing her demanding career with motherhood while embracing her newfound understanding of the condition that has shaped her experiences.
