Aasif Khan, known for his roles in popular web series like “Panchayat” and “Mirzapur,” recently shared insights into his early struggles in Mumbai, including a poignant moment when he was denied entry to Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor’s wedding while working as a waiter.
Starting his career as a casting assistant and junior artist in Bollywood films like “Ready” and “Agneepath,” Aasif Khan’s journey to success has been marked by determination and perseverance.
In a recent interview with ABP UNCUT, Aasif recalled his time as a waiter at the Taj hotel in Mumbai, where Saif and Kareena had their grand wedding in 2012. Despite working in the same venue, Aasif was unable to meet the Bollywood stars as his request to his manager was turned down. Reflecting on that day, he shared, “I cried that day as I could not meet the actors despite being so close to them.”
This setback fueled Aasif’s determination to break into Bollywood. He later received feedback from a casting agency that challenged his looks and physique, pushing him to hone his acting skills. Returning to his hometown in Rajasthan, he immersed himself in theater for six years before returning to Mumbai to pursue acting opportunities once again.
Aasif’s perseverance paid off as he landed roles in notable projects like “Toilet Ek Prem Katha” and “India’s Most Wanted,” alongside stars like Akshay Kumar and Arjun Kapoor. However, it was his foray into the world of OTT platforms that truly showcased his talent.
Debuting in 2018 with “Mirzapur” as Babar, a loyal aide, Aasif gained recognition for his performances in series like “Paatal Lok,” “Jamtara – Sabka Number Ayega,” and the acclaimed “Panchayat,” where he reprised his role in the third season.
Reflecting on his early days in Mumbai, Aasif shared, “In 2010, I convinced my mother and I went to Mumbai to become an actor.” His journey from a waiter striving for a glimpse of Bollywood stardom to a respected actor in the digital realm is a testament to his resilience and passion for his craft.
