Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s grand Yoga Day event held at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Wednesday has achieved a remarkable feat by setting a new Guinness World Record for the highest number of nationalities participating in a Yoga session. The event saw representation from at least 135 countries, with esteemed personalities such as American actor Richard Gere and New York City mayor Eric Adams in attendance.
The Guinness World Records official adjudicator, Michael Empric, presented the certificate for this outstanding achievement to Ruchira Kamboj, India’s permanent representative to the United Nations. The previous record for the most nationalities in a Yoga lesson was 140, and with 135 nationalities present at the UN event, a new world record was established.
Speaking about the accomplishment, Michael Empric expressed, “Today there was a Guinness World Records title attempt for most nationalities in a Yoga lesson. The mark to beat was 140 nationalities. Today in New York, at the UN, they have 135. It is a new Guinness World Records title.”
Denise Scotto, the moderator of Yoga Day at the UN HQ in New York, expressed her gratitude for being able to introduce Prime Minister Modi during the event. She shared, “India feels like it’s my spiritual home along with Italy where my family is from.”
