Neeraj Chopra Regains Top Spot in Javelin Throw World Rankings

Indian javelin throw icon Neeraj Chopra has made a strong return to the No. 1 position in the latest World Athletics rankings, moving ahead of Grenada’s Anderson Peters. Chopra now holds 1445 points, while Peters has 1431, placing the Indian athlete firmly back at the top.

Record-Breaking Throws Power Neeraj’s Rise

Chopra’s 2025 season has been marked by record-setting and podium-finishing performances. He started strong by winning the Potch Invitational in South Africa and followed that up with a landmark throw of 90.23m at the Doha Diamond League, setting a new national record and breaking into the exclusive 90-metre club.

Continuing his stellar form, Neeraj grabbed second place at the Kusocinski Memorial in Poland, then clinched victory at the Paris Diamond League with a throw of 88.16m. His winning streak continued with a top finish at the Ostrava Golden Spike event earlier this week.

Top Contenders in Global Javelin Rankings

Following Chopra and Peters in the rankings are some of the sport’s best. Julian Weber of Germany, who registered the world’s best throw of the season at 91.06m, is currently ranked third. Olympic gold medallist Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan stands fourth with 1370 points, and Jakub Vadlejch of Czechia takes fifth place.

Head-to-Head Dominance Over Anderson Peters

So far in 2025, Neeraj has outperformed Peters in all four of their face-offs, extending his dominance in this thrilling rivalry. Their last reversal happened in 2022, at the World Championships in Budapest, where Peters took gold and Chopra silver.

To date, Neeraj leads their final clashes 16-5, showcasing his remarkable consistency and edge in high-pressure events.
