Farhan Akhtar and Shibani Dandekar, who tied the knot in February 2022, recently opened up about their relationship and the online trolling they have faced since their marriage. In a candid discussion on the podcast “Chapter 2,” hosted by Rhea Chakraborty, Shibani revealed the hurtful labels directed at her, including being called a “gold digger” and accusations of their relationship being labeled as “love jihad.”
Reflecting on the negativity, Shibani stated, “When I started my relationship with Farhan, it used to be love jihad and gold-digger. These were the two main things that people used to say to me. What am I supposed to do with that? I am not going to cry myself to sleep just because people are saying these things. I am not a gold-digger.”
Shibani, who comes from a Hindu background, emphasized the strength of their marriage, saying, “The truth of the matter is he (Farhan Akhtar) comes from a Muslim home, and I do come from a Hindu home, and we got married, and we’re very happy with our marriage. That’s the reality of our situation. So you can say whatever you want about us. It is what it is.”
Farhan Akhtar expressed his support for Shibani and offered a broader perspective on criticism. He compared their experiences of trolling to the critiques often faced by films. “If the intention is to hurt, then why take it seriously?” he remarked, highlighting the importance of intent behind criticism. Farhan explained that constructive feedback can be valuable, but when the intention is to tear someone down, it becomes evident.
The couple, who have been married for over two years, remains resilient in the face of negativity. Farhan, previously married to hairstylist Adhuna Bhabani with whom he shares two daughters, continues to focus on the love and happiness they have built together.
As they navigate the challenges of public scrutiny, Shibani and Farhan’s commitment to each other serves as a reminder of the importance of love and understanding in a relationship, regardless of external opinions.
